METRONIDAZOLE 250 MG Tablets
Each metronidazole 250 mg Tablet contains metronidazole 250 mg.
Metronidazole is an anti- protozoal agent effective against
Trichomonas vaginalis, Entamoeba histolytica and in giardiasis.
Metronidazole is useful for the treatment of infections caused by
various anaerobic bacteria,
particularly Bacteroides fragilis.
gingivitis (Vincent's infection)
Infections caused by anaerobic bacteria, especially Bacteroides
As a prophylactic in postsurgical abdominal and pelvic infections.
Metronidazole tablets should not be used in patients with blood
dyscrasias or with active disease of the
central nervous system, or during pregnancy or lactation.
Pseudomembranous colitis has been reported with the use of
DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Tablets should preferably be swallowed whole with half a glassful
of water during or after meals.
Adults: 1g to 1.5g/day
Children: 20 to 30mg/kg/day
Adults and children over 15years: 0.75mg to 1g/day
500mg twice daily for 10 days
Partner must be treated simultaneously even she/he does not
demonstrate any clinical signs interactive
with other days.
Metrozem should not be used with any medicines containing alcohol.
SIDE EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
The side-effects of metronidazole tablets include gastro-intestinal
discomfort, anorexia, nausea, coated tongue, dryness of the mouth
and an unpleasant taste,
headaches and skin rashes and, less frequently, vertigo,
depression, insomnia, drowsiness, urethral
discomfort and darkening of the urine. There may be a temporary
decrease in the total white cell count.
Metronidazole tablets should be avoided during pregnancy. When
given in conjunction with alcohol,
metronidazole tablets may produce a disulfiram-like reaction.
Metronidazole tablets enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin.
KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT:
Early gastric lavage is recommended.
